Kim Shin-wook, the South Korean midfielder, has joined the Shanghai Shenhua football club as an assistant coach.
The move is part of the Chinese Super League's (CSL) latest recruitment drive to attract foreign coaches and players.
Shin-wook, who played for Seoul FC before joining Shanghai, was appointed head coach of the Korea national team in 2018 but stepped down after just one year due to health issues.
He is now back in China, where he will work alongside former player Zhang Xiujuan as part of the technical staff at Shanghai Shenhua.
"Kim Shin-wook is a very experienced and knowledgeable coach with a strong track record," said Shanghai Shenhua's general manager Zhang Jun.
"He brings valuable experience and knowledge to our coaching staff,Chinese Super League Matches and we look forward to working with him."
Shin-wook's appointment comes at a time when the CSL is undergoing significant changes.
In June, the league announced that it would be introducing new rules on transfer fees and wages, as well as stricter regulations on外援 use.
These changes are expected to have a significant impact on the league, with many clubs already struggling to cope with increased costs.
However, Shin-wook's arrival could provide some much-needed stability and leadership to the Shanghai Shenhua squad.
With his wealth of experience and successful playing career, he should be able to help guide the team towards success in the upcoming season.
